You will read 3 new texts - a short story and 2 short poems, and answer some questions (short answer) about each.

TP-CASTT - finish in-class, together (discuss and fill out form)
Questions (15-20 minutes in-class to work on; finish for H.W.) 1. Are the RCMP corrupt and oppressive? (in general, not the RCMP in the poem) What are your opinions about the RCMP/police? 2. Why do you think bill bissett misspells words in this poem? Is it related to how we are supposed to perceive the speaker ("i") in the poem? Who do you imagine the speaker to be? Describe the type of person who would write about this subject in this way. 3. What is the effect of referring to the RCMP as "they"? Is the "i" credible/believable? Why or why not? 4. Should a poem like this (subject/language) be read and discussed by teenagers? Why or why not? Please see last post for more information about the Career Education assignment. MANY students didn't have their work finished today, or even with them to finish in class.
We will be marking this assignment on Thursday, in class; anyone who does not have their work with them will not receive marks for the assignment. If you cannot be in class on Thursday, you are responsible for getting your completed work to me on Wednesday, or giving it to a classmate to bring in on Thursday. Career Ed. marks need to be in the system ASAP, as they are a combination of marks from Science, Socials, English, and Math lessons and need to be calculated together for final reports and a completed Career Ed. mark. Students were given 25 minutes in class to finish up any remaining sections of this assignment; the one they were supposed to leave for today was the last page - Core Competencies. Students are expected to have short notes reflecting on EACH core competency for this assignment. Introduction to Free Verse Poetry - handout. |
