Timeline:
Tuesday, March 12 - Library and laptops booked to work on project in groups. Thursday, March 14 - Laptops booked to work on project. Monday, April 1st - Last chance to finish up, review how you're going to present (who is reading which pages, practice pronunciation, etc.). Wednesday, April 3rd - ALL groups should be ready to present (read aloud their storybooks and tell the class about the Nation or Indigenous group associated with their story) Don't forget, your project/book MUST HAVE: a title page (name of story, name of author or teller if known, retold by [your names], + image; text and images on all storybook pages; a Works Cited Page (see previous blog for example of what this should look like); information on the Nation, including location, languages, culture, and some historical background, as well as any current information you can find about this Indigenous group. Students finished Greek Myths Poster Project presentations, today. Introduced next, semi-related project - just as Greek and Roman myths, and myths from other cultures, were told orally, over thousands of years, so have been the stories of Indigenous peoples. In groups, student will be choosing a story from a B.C. Indigenous Group, doing some research on that group/culture/nation, and creating a digital storybook (using PowerPoint or Google Slides) to present to the class. Computers will be made available for each class through to March Break, and students are welcome to bring their own laptops if they prefer them to a school device. Groups to be posted, shortly, along with format for Works Cited page(s). Groups: 1. Clare, Alexa, Vincent, Aidan 2. Zinc, Owen (edited group - now pair) 3. Seungju, Camryn, Emma, Brady 4. Gloria, Angus, Ben, Alex 5. Hyun, Haylee, Alexis, Archie 6. Lucy, Evan, Tristan (edited group - now 3) 7. Mya, Charlotte, Ryan 8. Grace, Chloe, Keira (edited group) Works Cited (last slides) - If more than one in any category, works should be cited alphabetically by author's last name. If no known author, cite alphabetically by title. Titles of articles or parts of works (short stories, poems) get "quotation marks around them"; titles of whole works (books, magazines, names of websites) get underlined OR put in italics (not both). In the Example: Saunders = author, "Susan Sarandon" = name of article in magazine, Interview = name of magazine. Saunders, Shakespeare, and Slippery are in alphabetical order, even though the last entry doesn't have an author. It is alphabetized by the first other information we have, which is the name of the page = "Slippery Slopes and Sticking Surfaces: Explore the Forces of Friction" on the website = Science Buddies, Saunders, George. "Susan Sarandon" in Interview. <https://www.interviewmagazine.com/film/susan-sarandon> Last accessed March 6, 2019. Shakespeare, William. Where you got the story: Author Last Name, Author First Name (if known), "Title of Story", <URL> where you found the story. Last accessed: March 5, 2019.
