What is the best thing about Junior’s grandmother? What does he give as an example of this quality? 4. What does she say is “the whole point of life”? Do you agree? Explain why or why not. 5. Something is ironic when the opposite of what is expected to happen actually happens. Authors use irony for humour or to emphasize events. How is what happened to Junior’s grandmother an example of irony? 6. What does she say, right before she dies? How does this circle back to the “best thing” in question 3? 7. Junior says his bullies “waved the white flag” at his grandmother’s wake. What does this mean? 8. Billionaire Ted is a white man “collector”. What does this mean? What do people like him make Indians feel like? (look for a simile) 9. What caused Billionaire Ted’s “Dark Nights of the Soul”? 10. At the end of “Valentine Heart”, Junior writes lists of things that make him feel ________. What are the categories? You will be working on a solo assignment - YES, you may use the novel (in fact, you'll need to); due at end of class; working on your own (no talking/sharing). Go over/in-class-mark answers for Group Work Questions (from last day).
Important details (review) in "Slouching Toward Thanksgiving" (were to read for HW). Read to p. 117 for next class, and work on PFP (whole look, chapter-by-chapter, to p. 117). **I will be CHECKING PFP to p. 117 on Wednesday, December 11th. This includes 16 chapters/sections. You should have ALL your PFP here for me to scan through. You won't be handing it in at this time - it will be a Homework Check, and I'll collect the full-book-PFP at the end of the novel study unit. Return "Tell-Tale Heart" and go over answers.
