Blood Tribe Police Service
Like This Page · 8 June · Edited · The Blood Tribe in Alberta is the largest First Nations Reservation in Canada, and has its own Police Service. (read Our Story at https://www.facebook.com/bloodtribepoliceservice ) The "Ribbon Skirts & Shirts" initiative was the vision of Cst. Samantha Johnson. As a result, ribbon skirts and shirts are now standard uniform issue, to be worn at events that call for proper traditional attire. Pictured: Cst. Colinda Frank, Inspector Farica Syrette, Cst. Work BC is a site that has all kinds of information for folks who are entering the workforce. Some of you are in Grade 11 and 12 and looking at choices for next year (or maybe even sooner), so I thought I'd provide a link from the Work BC site that provides some specific resources for people with Indigenous ancestry.
Of course, these aren't the only links on the site that might be interesting or contain good info you can use. You can browse the site at www.workbc.ca to see the full contents. Some things you can find on the Resources for Indigenous People page: <https://www.workbc.ca/Resources-for/Indigenous-People.aspx> Use BC's Career Guide for Aboriginal People to support your career planning journey, all the way from exploration to success on the job. The Guide offers information on career exploration, skills training, education and funding support, and how to connect to employers. Explore A Guide to Indigenous Organizations and Services. It lists many Indigenous community-based services and organizations that can work with you on education, employment, business development and other goals. There is also a YOUTH-specific page: <https://www.workbc.ca/Resources-for/Youth.aspx> Lots of interesting links from this page to help you figure out how the skills you have match to different careers, opportunities for Work Experience, what training/courses you need to pursue different careers/jobs, etc. Please work on getting your Information Request Forms back to me ASAP. They can be returned to me in Room 109 (end of the hallway that starts at the front entrance of the school - just before the doors at the end, on the left) OR drop off at the office to be put in my mailbox.
You can sign your own form if you're 16+. If not, a parent/guardian needs to sign. You can put your own email on the form, as well, because we want to be able to send YOU information. I'll add info to this page when I get it from the district, or within the community, and send out details via email when there are field trips to participate in, school group lunches, or other events. I'll also do my best to give you LOTS of notice. :) Thanks for your patience, and I welcome your input - I think that together we can create something good at SDSS, once I have some ideas about what you want or need. ~Ms. Hlina |
New Position:This is a new position to SDSS and most other secondary schools in our district. As such, it's going to be a work in progress, and there will be a lot of learning for me, too! Archives
