Claudia Bastien from UBC Enrolment Services came on Monday during what-would-have-been-Flex to talk a bit about UBC Vancouver and Okanagan campuses, programs, and opportunities.
She left some resources - the general Undergrad Viewbook for 2019, the Undergraduate Aboriginal Student Book for 2018, and a flyer about the Aboriginal Access Studies Program at UBC Okanagan. If you're interested in any of these resources, please let me know, or come see me in Room 109 for Flex. I also have Claudia's contact information, so if you have specific questions that only someone from UBC can answer, I can either pass them along, or get her email/phone number to you. Hi everyone,
Just a heads up, we have our Post Secondary Evening at SDSS tonight, October 15th at 6:20pm-7:40 in the CAFETERIA if students or parents are interested. This specifically has BC post secondary institutions as well as the Canadian Armed Forces. Also University of Victoria and SFU will be here this week to present in the conference room. UVic will be presenting Tuesday Oct. 16th at lunchtime, and SFU will be presenting Thursday Oct. 18th at Flex time. Students can sign up for the Flex under Vasconcelos/myself. Finally, just a heads up that our UBC Evening has been moved to Oct. 24th (7pm in the theatre). Seems our Monday schedule isn't as-usual, due to Breaking Down the Walls assemblies and a "double-B-block" with no Flex. This wasn't on the timetable when the UBC Indigenous Programs folks booked, so now...we work around it! :) INTERESTED STUDENTS (any grade), please send me an email <[email protected]> to confirm you'll attend. There will be snacks, and I want to make sure I have enough. Check in with your B-block teacher, then come at the start of the FIRST "Block B" to Room 109. You will be EXCUSED from the first assembly OR the first half of the double-block (half = assembly, half = class time), NOT ABSENT. Trying not to let this opportunity get lost in the shuffle, ~Ms. Hlina
Any students interested in learning what programs, classes, and initiatives UBC has to offer Indigenous students, please sign up with me (Ms. Hlina, Room 109) for FLEX on Monday, October 15th.
We have someone from UBC coming to talk to us about opportunities at UBC that are specifically available to/for students with Indigenous Ancestry. If you have questions, or think you might be interested in attending ANY program/faculty at UBC in the future, please join us. This is geared mostly toward Grade 10-12 students, but any and all Indigenous students are welcome to attend and get more information for future-planning. :) https://engineering.ubc.ca/admissions/undergraduate/events-and-visits ENGINEERING & ARCHITECTURE OPEN HOUSEYou and your family are invited to join us on Saturday, November 24 for the UBC Engineering Open House. New Position:This is a new position to SDSS and most other secondary schools in our district. As such, it's going to be a work in progress, and there will be a lot of learning for me, too! Archives
